SACE Stage 2 Information Technology Examination Preparation Day for Students and Teachers 2017

When: Friday 13 October 2017, from 8:45am to 4:00pm (sign in from 8:15am)

Come and develop your skills in answering questions under timed supervision. Apply your knowledge and improve your understanding and unpacking of exam questions for maximum marks.

Students, you will have the opportunity to work with very experienced teachers to explore question responses, discuss, and refine your answers.  You will also be helped to develop the hand written page of notes that you can take with you into the examination.

Teachers, you can attend the day too. There will be a special session for you during the afternoon.
Teachers who are EdTechSA members can attend  for the special price of $30. Use your member login when registering to get this price. Please do NOT use this login if you are registering students as doing this will incorrectly trigger the teacher discount and an incorrect invoice will be created.

Details: Book Creator app for the iPad is impressive! It takes a blank-canvas approach to creativity that makes publishing and sharing eBooks easier than ever. With a simple and intuitive design, students of all ages can create their own multimedia books. Book Creator is easy to use and incredibly powerful for creating picture books, portfolios of work, topic summaries, collection of ideas, posters etc etc. The SAMR model was introduced as a way for teachers to evaluate how they are incorporating technology into their instructional practice. SAMR can be used to reflect upon how you are integrating technology into your classroom. Is it an act of Substitution, Augmentation, Modification or Redefinition? In this session, we will learn how the innovative use of Book Creator will enable you to move beyond Substitution to Modification or even Redefinition.

Title: Years 7 & 8 Digital Technologies: Next Steps Making Apps

Presenter: Dr Claudia Szabo

Bio: Dr Claudia Szabo is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Computer Science. She has an undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering, and a PhD in distributed systems from the National University of Singapore. She is the 2017 recipient of the South Australian Science Excellence Award – STEM Educator of the Year.  She is passionate about STEM education and in particular about ensuring that these educational opportunities are available to all and that career pathways into STEM and accessible to under-represented groups.

Abstract: This workshop will present an introduction to the CSER Years 7&8 MOOC and an overview of its lending library and associated lessons.  We will explore the design and development of a classroom project around application development, and discuss the range of Digital Technologies related skills from the Australian Curriculum.

Title: Year 9 & 10 Digital Technologies: Explore!

Presenter: Associate Professor Nick Falkner

Bio: Nick Falkner is an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Adelaide. He is an award-winning teacher and conducts research into a number of areas: computer network design and development, network security, privacy preservation, the Internet of Things and educational research, with a focus on increasing student participation, retention, and enthusiasm. He is working in a number of projects to increase participation in STEM and digital technologies.

Abstract: This workshop will introduce the 9&10 MOOC, along with the key concept of Objects and provide some worked examples and in-workshop activities to increase attendees’ knowledge in this area. We will explore how we can use the game-based design approach to drive student projects, as well as going through exercises to practice identifying and developing game ideas for students. This will be placed in the context of the Australian Digital Technologies Curriculum.
