Those of you who watch Gruen Planet may remember a recent “discussion” on the role social media socialmediaand advertising may have played in the recent Libyan upheaval.

It reminded me of this article by Ramesh Srinivasan, an assistant professor of information studies and design/media arts at the University of California at Los Angeles. In this article published in the Washington Post, Ramesh breaks down the following five myths:

3. Facebook and Twitter enabled the Arab Spring
4. Only young people use social media
5. Social media creates a global village
