What is Ctrl-Alt-Learn?
Ctrl-Alt-Learn is EdTechSA’s annual professional learning event, designed by teachers for teachers. It provides an opportunity to explore how digital technologies can complement classroom practice, enhance student experiences, and support powerful learning in an evolving educational landscape.
This year, we are moving the event fully online, creating a dynamic digital space where educators from across South Australia—and beyond—can connect, collaborate, and engage with the latest trends in educational technology. The event is structured to be accessible, flexible, and responsive to the needs of teachers, offering a platform for shared learning and professional growth.
Why you will want to attend
Ctrl-Alt-Learn is more than just a professional learning opportunity; it is a community-driven experience. The event brings together educators to share real-world strategies, tools, and insights that can elevate teaching practice.
The overarching theme will emerge from the workshops proposed by presenters, ensuring that the content reflects the topics that matter most to educators. This approach fosters a sense of ownership and relevance, making the event both engaging and meaningful.
Educators can join from anywhere, whether they are at home, traveling, or enjoying a term break. There is no need for travel or time away from other commitments—just an opportunity to learn, connect, and grow in a supportive environment.
How It Works
The event will begin with a keynote presentation, setting the tone for the day and providing an opportunity for attendees to connect with one another. Following the keynote, participants will have the chance to select from a range of workshops hosted by educators and industry experts. These sessions will cover a variety of topics, from practical classroom strategies to broader discussions about the role of technology in education.
At the end of the day, a plenary session will bring everyone together for reflection and discussion. This will be an opportunity to share insights, ask questions, and connect with presenters and peers. Additionally, recordings of all sessions will be made available to EdTechSA members after the event, allowing participants to revisit content they found valuable or catch up on sessions they may have missed.
Who the event is designed for
Ctrl-Alt-Learn is designed for a wide range of educators, including classroom teachers looking to integrate technology in meaningful ways, digital technologies specialists eager to share their expertise, and school leaders interested in exploring new directions for their school’s digital learning strategy.
Save the date - 9 July 2026
The event will take place on
Whether you are joining from home, school, or somewhere in between, Ctrl-Alt-Learn offers a unique opportunity to connect with the EdTech community and explore the future of teaching and learning.
Why online?
The decision to host the event online reflects our commitment to accessibility and flexibility. The digital format also allows for a more relaxed and self-directed experience, enabling participants to focus on the sessions that are most relevant to them.
Get involved!
There are several ways to participate in Ctrl-Alt-Learn. If you have expertise or insights to share, consider presenting a workshop. ”KEYNOTE
Teachers need permission to redefine what cheating looks like in the AI era. We need to
move on from seeing AI use as a form of plagiarism. As school leaders, it is our
responsibility to empower teachers to stop wasting their time trying to detect AI-generated
content in student work. Instead, we need to structurally redesign our assessments to verify
student understanding. This session will equip school leaders and educators with the
principles and practices to lead this shift in their schools.
AI in Education: The Bridge, Not the Bypass with Holly Wedd, Orara High School
As AI becomes increasingly accessible to students, educators face a critical
leadership challenge – how do we harness its benefits without allowing it to replace
the thinking that sits at the heart of learning? This session explores the idea of AI as
a bridge, not a bypass, supporting feedback, clarification, differentiation and
extension while ensuring students remain responsible for choosing methods,
justifying steps, verifying results and communicating with precision.
Drawing on observations from schools and universities across Australia, the USA
and UK, this presentation focuses on the leadership decisions needed to build
consistency, protect productive struggle and strengthen academic integrity. Rather
than positioning AI use as a technology issue, the session reframes it as a learning
design issue. Participants will consider practical classroom norms, including
“commit first, then consult”, and examine routines that help students use AI for
feedback and refinement rather than answer generation.
The session provides leaders with a clear framework for guiding responsible AI use in
classrooms while keeping reasoning, verification and student understanding central.
Educating with Emerging Tech to Inspire Real-World Impact
Explore how emerging technologies can transform education from passive learning into
hands-on, real-world impact. Drawing on his journey founding Reality Bytes Media and
delivering immersive programs, Cameron Coggins shares his experience with inspiring
creativity, building future-ready skills, and expanding access to cutting-edge tools for
students.
The Magic of Canva Code | Jo Muirhead - Canva
Discover how to turn your ideas into powerful, interactive learning experiences with
Canva Code. In this hands-on virtual workshop, you will explore how to generate custom
digital activities that engage students, support diverse learning needs, and can be easily
differentiated for every learner. Whether you’re creating games, self-marking
assessment, or dynamic, interactive content, you’ll learn how to design experiences that
adapt to varying abilities and contexts. You will be empowered to personalise learning
while saving time. Perfect for educators and leaders looking to blend creativity,
innovation, and impact in the classroom.
Classroom Case Study: Beyond the Headset - The Future of Learningwith Immersive Technologies (VR/AR) | Ben Branford - TeachTEK / RealityTEK
How do we prepare students for a workforce that doesn’t yet exist? The answer lies not
just in the technology we provide, but in the resilience and curiosity we cultivate. This
presentation explores a real-world case study from the Girls in Tech Expo at St Peter’s
Girls School, where immersive technologies (VR/AR) are removed from the “gaming”
category into a core pedagogical tool. Here, we will move beyond the technical specs
and look at the impact on student engagement.
Updating Applied Use of iVR in Schools | Paul Unsworth
Use of immersive virtual reality technologies are well known in gaming and training
sectors. But what do we know about iVRs use in schools? Paul will give an overview of
various use cases based on current research and his project partnerships with schools.
Navigating the AI Landscape | Ritter Wang - AIML
In this presentation we will hear from Ritter Wang from the Australian Institute of Machine Learning – as part of Adelaide University (the host of AI camp).
LOUNGE hosted by Jak Baddams
Jak will be facilitating discussions on the following three topics:
1.AI in Learning Design
2.Futures of Education
3.De-Implementation [what can we STOP doing?]
