ACEC2014 is proud to announce a new keynote address in our program and two new speakers, Alan Noble and Sally-Ann Williams.
Sally-Ann Williams is the Engineering Community and Outreach Manager for Google working with startups and universities across Australia & New Zealand. She oversees Google’s efforts in supporting local entrepreneurship and advancing science and technology education and research. A key part of her role is working to advance the access of computer science education in schools across Australia & New Zealand through curriculum development, teacher training, outreach activities and partnerships. Prior to joining Google 7.5 years ago Sally-Ann worked at several Australian tertiary institutions in a range of academic and academic administration roles spanning executive education, public sector management, research and postgraduate degrees and tertiary management.
Alan Noble has been Engineering Director for Google Australia and New Zealand since 2007. He joined Google from NetPriva, a networking software company he founded in 2005 which was acquired by Expand Networks and in turn acquired by Riverbed. From 1986 until 2002 he lived in California. Alan worked for Schlumberger for 8 years, then in 1996 he cofounded NetMind, which developed the Internet’s first change detection service. NetMind was acquired in 2000 by Intellisync (now part of Nokia) where he was VP of Engineering until returning to Australia in 2002.
He is also a co-founder of SA Angels and a co-founder and director of StartupAUS. Alan also serves on the advisory boards of several Australian universities (Adelaide, NSW, Melbourne and Carnegie Melon), the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) Industry Advisory Committee and the advisory committee of the Chief Scientist of Australia. Alan attended Adelaide University and Stanford University.
Sally-Ann and Alan will present their keynote address on the topic of CS + X – empowering the next generation for tomorrow’s world
In this keynote talk Alan and Sally-Ann will provide an overview of the role computer science is playing and will play in the economy of the future. They will talk about the trends and growth opportunities globally and what we can do locally to ensure Australian students are well placed to be a part of the new economy and solving the world’s problems.
